This magazine typically does a best new restaurant roundup every year or two, but the last time we did that was October 2012. In 2013 and 2014, we just weren’t happy enough with the crop of newcomers to fill an entire feature. So we waited an extra year—and it was worth it. So much has transpired in the dining scene over the past couple of years that there were many worthy contenders, from which we selected nine. One simple prerequisite was that restaurants must have opened January 2014 or later to qualify as new. More significantly, to grace these pages, a restaurant must offer a dining experience that pulls you back again and again—an experience that has you posting on Instagram and recommending the place to everyone you know (and perhaps a few strangers too). So get out there and try truly authentic Mexican, real Chinese food, creative New American, artisanal Italian, and more at our favorite new restaurants.
