Restaurant Openings, Closings, Kitchen Changes, and Food Events in Westchester County, NY: August 2012

Burger Bar 57, a hamburger joint serving 10-ounce patties made of 100-percent Certified Angus beef, moved into the space that once housed Johnny’s on 5th (600 Fifth Ave, Pelham 914-355-2783; burger bar57.com). Aside from burgers—including the Whiskey BBQ (a burger topped with barbecue sauce and Irish whiskey cheddar cheese); the Hangover (a burger topped with a fried egg, bacon, and cheddar); and the Tiki (a burger topped with grilled pineapple, Virginia ham, and Polynesian sauce)—the menu offers salads, sandwiches, and entrées such as a 12-ounce skirt steak, smoked St. Louis ribs, and almond-crusted Alaskan salmon. Main dishes cost $11 to $24. The 275-seat (150 inside, 125 outdoors) restaurant is open for dinner every day; lunch starts in September // On the Waterfront has closed and in its space find P.D. O’Hurley’s On The Waterfront (2 Pelham Rd, New Rochelle 914-365-1556; thewaterfrontnewrochelle.com), a seafood and steak restaurant. Karim Bouskou, a Casablanca-born chef, formerly at now-shuttered Park Terrace Bistro in Manhattan, is general manager. Prior to cooking at Park Terrace, he held a front-of-the-house position at Le Bernardin. Michelin-award-winning chef Conrad Gallagher, best known for Peacock Alley restaurant in Dublin, designed the menu. Soft-shell crabs, fried clams, grilled salmon, fish ‘n’ chips, plus pastas and steaks are served. Main dishes range from $12 to $28. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner; brunch is offered on Sunday. Owner Paul Hurley also owns P.D. O’Hurley’s on West 72nd Street and Pier 84 in New York City // An Argentinean steakhouse, Gaucho Grill (1 N Broadway, White Plains 914-437-9966; gauchogrillnewyork.com), is scheduled to open any day now in the location that once housed Antipasti // If you volunteer (rotary, church group, fire department, animal shelter, etc.) and like to dine out, take advantage of Elmsford-based Thank You For Caring’s (914-424-8888; thankyouforcaring.com) Volunteer Appreciation Night. Bring proof that you volunteer to one of more than 30 county restaurants on Wednesday nights through December 31, 2012, to receive 20 percent off your dinner bill. ZaZa in Scarsdale, Chutney Masala in Irvington, Café Mozart in Mamaroneck, Posto 22 in New Rochelle, and Tarry Tavern in Tarrytown are among the restaurants participating (see website for complete list).
