The County’s first children’s museum moved a bit further toward completion with a benefit, titled Cocktails on the Sound, held steps from the construction site at the bathhouses on the Rye Playland boardwalk. The event, attended by nearly 400 guests, showcased the construction progress and exhibit plans for the Westchester Children’s Museum, which will include: water play; pretend areas; physics, science, art, and music exhibits; places to climb, build, and examine. A cocktail reception was followed by mini golf; and live and silent auctions. More than $125,000 was raised. “To be the host city for the future Westchester Children’s Museum is thrilling,” says Rye Mayor Doug French. “The bathhouses on the Long Island Sound are the perfect location and a great use of one of our city’s landmarks.” The total cost of the project is estimated at $15 million and, to date, approximately $7.5 million has been raised from contributions from more than 2,200 people. The Museum is slated for soft openings in mid 2011.
