From the Publisher: Westchester Magazine Announces 2013 Pet Contest Winners; Shares Photos of Staff’s Pets

We know you love your pets, but even we were surprised by the response to this year’s Pet Centerfold Contest. We received 144 submissions and more than 1,000 votes! To see who is top dog (and pig, and cat, and bird), check out the adorable winners, starting on page 88. And since we couldn’t submit our own best friends (although they are definitely centerfold-worthy, in our humble opinion), we thought we’d share some of them here with you here.

“Ozzy is a playful and loyal English Bulldog,” says Digital Account Executive Jonathan Quartuccio. “He has yet to meet a furry friend or human he does not get along with.”
“My cat’s name is Caesar and he loves to drink from the bathtub faucet,” says Senior Editor John Bruno Turiano. “He hasn’t quite mastered this yet despite doing it for many years. So, he’s a bit slow and overweight, but he’s my buddy anyway.”
“Chico is a four-year-old Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix who can jump as if he were on a trampoline,” says Marketing Manager Jennifer D’Ambrosio. “We adopted him over two years ago from Pets Alive Westchester. He loves boating, snuggling, and the New York Jets (although his dad will tell you he’s a Giants fan).”
“This is Mika. She is my buddy,” says Marketing Manager Jessica McCaffrey. “She is always ready to play, hike, cuddle, or even chat. My fiancé adopted her from a local shelter two years ago and the three of us have been a little family since. “
“Ella is is an 11-month-old mixed breed that I rescued about five months ago,” says Associate Art Director Jessica Brown. “She is full of energy, very friendly, and has an adorable little underbite that I just love. I’m so grateful she came into my life. As the phrase goes, ‘I’m not sure who rescued who.’”
“Shawna is 15 months old, we got her at the Pets Alive Shelter in Elmsford,” says Account Executive Bob Grossman. “We call her ‘the family duck’ because she gets so excited to see us, she waddles her backside back and forth. “
“This is my 9-year-old tabby, Brooklyn, in front, with her brother, Jelly Bean,” says Managing Editor Kate Walsh. “Sadly, Jelly Bean, aka Mr. Bean, passed away three years ago. Brooklyn missed him at first, but now she likes being the Queen Bee.”
“This is Jackson, a Golden-Collie mix,” says Features Editor Nancy Claus. “I adopted him from Sunshine Golden Rescue four years ago and he’s the best dog I’ve ever had. I love him so much I got him a brother, Foster, from the same group two years later.”
