Westchester Real Estate 2012: Homefield, Yonkers Best Place for Mall Shoppers

The Ridge Hill Shopping Center offers many new “shopportunities” in Yonkers.

Homefield in northeast Yonkers is often thought of these days as the home of Stew Leonard’s, Home Depot, and Costco, but that may change now that Ridge Hill has opened just on the other side of I-87. Folks who live in Homefield have sort of a private entrance to Westchester’s newest shopping extravaganza off Sprain Road.
Yonkers realtor Margot Bennett thinks Homefield is a fine neighborhood—even without all the nearby opportunities to run up your credit card balance. “Homefield is a hilly, terraced community with some lovely homes that go for anywhere from three hundred thousand to eight hundred thousand dollars,” she says. “From the top of the area, you overlook the Sprain Lake Reservoir.”

Or look a little to the south, and you’ll find Ridge Hill, a shopping oasis with fountains, a playground, and even a trolley to take you from one end of this village of commerce to the other. There will eventually be more than 100 shops and restaurants, but already you can take a cooking class at Sur La Table, learn ice-climbing at REI, get your ax humming again at Guitar Center, or tie some flies at Orvis. The WestMed Medical Group is there, too, as is Whole Foods and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

If you just have to live closer to the shopping experience, check out the Monarch luxury condos at Ridge Hill. All the amenities you’d want—24-hour concierge, pools, fitness center, sauna, observation deck, tennis and basketball courts, a golf simulator—plus you can step out of the elevator and walk across the street to the open-air mall.

And if Ridge Hill doesn’t max out your credit line, the newly renovated and expanded Cross County Shopping Center—all one million square feet of it—is just a few minutes away.
