Michael Aziz, MD, a board-certified Manhattan internist and author of the best-selling diet book, Perfect 10 Diet: 10 Key Hormones That Hold the Secret to Losing Weight and Feeling Great--Fast!, will be coming once a month to Skin N.Y. in Rye Brook for consultations and treatment for those with hormonal imbalances. He’s preached his gospel on Good Morning America, The Dr. Oz Show, Fox News, and The View and has two additional books in the works, a cookbook and one on anti-aging.
What’s a hormone specialist doing in a skincare salon, you ask?
“Health starts from the inside,” Dr. Aziz says. “If you eat a lot of sugar and refined carbs, your skin will age more quickly. The body needs natural fats—butter, avocado, nuts. And when women start losing their sex hormones—progesterone and estrogen, even testosterone—collagen production slows down, and wrinkles appear along with weight gain, depression, and hot flashes.”
Not a pretty picture. So what does Dr. Aziz prescribe? Traditional hormone-replacement therapy pretty much fell out of favor once research showed that Premarin (made from the urine of pregnant mares, a major put-off right there) led to a higher risk of strokes. Enter bioidentical hormones (made from yams)—yes, the stuff that Suzanne Somers has been touting for years. Well, it seems Dr. Azia touts them, too.
