Citing reasons including the killing of Hudson River fish, as well as the contamination of our drinking water, New York State ruled that the cooling technology at Indian Point nuclear power plant violates the Clean Water act and therefore did not renew plant owner Entergy’s water quality certificate. The current certificates expire in 2013 and 2015. Converting Indian Point’s cooling system would require a 42-week shutdown; however, the shutdown may be delayed if Entergy takes the issue to court.
