9 Essential Ways To Make Your Guest Room More Inviting

Pamper your guests and make them feel at home.

It’s that time of the year again when family and friends visit for the holidays and you need to have your guest room ready to go. Here are nine great ideas from local designer Lorri Dyner and I that will make your guests feel more comfortable during their stay:

1. Provide a small dental kit
Provide your guests with a small dental kit that consists of the following: a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. In doing so, your guests will appreciate the gesture and won’t feel the need to have to ask you for one if they have forgotten to pack their own.

2. New shampoo, conditioner, bar of soap, and lotion
Don’t you love it when you stay over at a hotel for the night and they have supplied you with free soaps and lotions? Your guests will feel the same when staying at your house, says Lorri.

3. Blankets, pillows, and towels
Give your guests extra blankets, pillows, and towels, suggests Lorri. Don’t give them just one and make them have to ask for extras. Have them ready to go and everyone will appreciate it.

4. Flowers or candles
Flowers and candles are nice little touches that you can put on the nightstand in your guest room. It’s the little things that your guests will appreciate.

5. Reading materials
Put current magazines, books, and/or newspapers along the bedside. You may also include your town’s chamber of commerce brochure listing interesting things to see and do. This also makes a great conversation starter!

6. Information
Provide your guests with a little information sheet that has all of the codes or passwords that your guests might need including the Wi-Fi information, your home phone number, etc. This could also include information on when you’ll be serving breakfast or lunch, or any other details you want them to be aware of.

7. Snacks
We suggest doing your research before your guests arrive. Provide your guests with sparkling water and their favorite candies, fruits, or snacks.

8. Somewhere to put their suitcase
Whether it be a bench at the foot of the bed or an actual luggage rack, give guests a place to put their suitcase or bag and unpack. It will give their backs a break after a potentially long journey.

9. Slippers and a robe
Go one step further and provide guests with slippers and robes. These will be especially appreciated during the colder months and in case they forgot to bring their own and will really make them feel like they’re staying in a luxurious hotel.

Doing all of this ahead of the holiday craziness will keep your stress to a minimum and help your guests to have the best time ever.
