Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Good Deals, Good Meals & Good Nights

Even with Manhattan just a short train ride away, Westchester has its share of quality stores, restaurants and entertainment options set in a fun, relaxed environment.

Good Deals
When you’re ready to shop, head to the city of White Plains and explore The Westchester, an upscale, skylit mall with marble floors and bronze sculptures. In Yonkers, you can stroll through Cross County Shopping Center, Westchester’s largest mall and home to more than 100 stores and services.

Major retailers, such as Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom, are found all around the county. Don’t let the convenience of known names stop you from exploring other avenues, though. Every village and town of Westchester has something to offer in the way of local wares. Tarrytown and Pound Ridge, for instance, are known for their collectibles, with the former having an amazing downtown concentration of antiques shops.

If you want to relax by seeing a movie, be sure to visit New Roc City, a 1.2 million-square-foot entertainment/retail/residential complex in New Rochelle. New Roc City features 18 movie screens and an IMAX theater, as well as glow-in-the-dark bowling, ice skating and the Tower Space Shot Ride, which displays a breathtaking, albeit brief, view of the Long Island Sound from 200 feet above the ground.

Good Meals
After shopping or catching a movie, you’re going to crave a good meal. With at least 2,000 restaurants, Westchester County offers options ranging from American cuisine to Thai specialties. Stop by Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs in Yonkers for a quick bite, enjoy Cajun cuisine in both Mount Vernon and Rye, or add ambience to your meal by dining at one of many restaurants along the Hudson River. Westchester also has some of the nation’s most popular dining establishments, including Applebee’s and PF Chang’s.

The New York Times regularly reviews Westchester restaurants, and the Zagat Survey has rated more than 500 eateries in the county. Zagat has described the dishes offered by the Iron Horse Grill in Pleasantville as “extraordinary to perfection,” while The New York Times has praised the pasta selection at One Twenty Three in South Salem, declaring the “floppy, succulent raviolis” as “particularly compelling.”

Good Nights
Your belly may be full and your sprit may be lifted, but the night is still young. Listen to live blues on Friday nights at The Bayou in Mount Vernon. Traditional Irish pubs, salsa dancing and karaoke have a place in Westchester as well.

Concert halls and performing arts centers are also found throughout the county. Whether comedy, drama or orchestral sounds interest you, the talented artists of Westchester provide a moving experience.
