Great Medical Programs – White Plains Hospital: Orthopedics Program

With board certified physicians and advanced technologies, the highly specialized Orthopedics Team at White Plains Hospital (WPH) delivers superior care – from diagnosis and treatment to recovery – in renovated facilities, with no need to travel for care.

In 2016, U.S. News and World Report ranked White Plains Hospital as a Region’s Best Hospital and the highest on the list in Westchester. The Hospital was also awarded high performance rankings in a number of clinical areas including orthopedics. The orthopedic program offers comprehensive excellence and a philosophy of individualized, patient centered care from pre-surgical education to post-operative physical rehabilitation to address the personal needs of each patient for excellent outcomes.

Advanced Equipment and an Advanced Approach.

Within White Plains Hospital’s recent expansion, the five new operating rooms offer the most advanced surgical technology and equipment. The Hospital has two of the latest generation da Vinci® surgical robots, as well as the most advanced precision imaging technology. Minimally invasive techniques allow WPH surgeons to perform procedures with greater precision, minimizing the pain and risk of large incisions and optimizing recovery time.

Innovative techniques, such as pain block therapies during surgery and pain management post-surgery (including methods to control pain without medication) help reduce pain and expedite ambulation as early as the day of surgery. An Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program facilitates greater comfort during the healing process and the avoidance of complications such as pneumonia and blood clots.

The Most Comprehensive Care in the Region.

The surgeons in the Orthopedic Program are recognized throughout the region for their advanced, innovative orthopedic expertise. WPH is a leading provider of knee and hip replacements and delivers a wide range of specialized orthopedic surgical procedures – hand surgery, joint replacement, arthroscopic surgical repair, and surgical and non-surgical spinal therapies.

The Orthopedic Team prides itself on offering a multi-faceted approach, including the latest diagnostic testing, pre-operative education classes for patients and family, and access to outstanding physical therapy rehabilitation services, many in partnership with the renowned Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. The comprehensive care at WPH is designed to facilitate a faster recovery and return to daily activities.

Care Without Compromise Close to Home.

The Hospital has recently renovated and expanded its facilities, offering greater amenities for patients, five state-of-the-art operating rooms, a new patient tower featuring 24 private rooms, a comfortable lobby, and a conveniently located cafeteria and lobby cafe. These are some of the many upgrades that earned WPH its recent recognition as the #8 Most Beautiful Hospital in the US by Soliant Health.

White Plains Hospital is a repeated recipient of the Healthgrades® Outstanding Patient Experience Award, placing it among the top 15% of hospitals in the United States for patient experience. WPH also holds the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission – the nation’s principal accrediting healthcare agency – for superior quality and safety. In 2016, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) re-designated WPH as a Magnet® Hospital, one of only 7% of hospitals in the nation to receive this recognition for nursing excellence.

Sincerity with Specialization.

More than 98% of patients said that they would recommend WPH to family and friends in 2016, according to Press Ganey surveys.

Orthopedic floor nurses, physical therapists, a dietician, holistic nurses, an orthopedic PA and a Care Manager all work collaboratively to ensure each patient has a positive experience at WPH. Prior to discharge, the Care Management Team will coordinate with home-based services such as Physical Therapy and medication delivery to ease the burden on caregivers at home.
