Great Medical Programs – Westmed Urgent Care
When patients want to get well fast, it is important that they are able to connect with health professionals who provide them with the care they need, exactly when they need it. That is why the Westmed Urgent Care Centers (UCCs) are an essential resource to the community.
The six Westmed walk-in UCCs, located throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties, provide patients with access to quality medical services for non-life-threatening conditions that require immediate attention. When patients arrive, they can anticipate shorter wait times than emergency rooms, in a more convenient and comfortable atmosphere than hospitals can offer. Each office is open seven days a week, and patients of every age group–from babies to seniors-can receive care without an appointment.
From everyday ailments like sore throats, common rashes, and minor sports injuries, to more intensive concerns such as abdominal pain and lacerations, Westmed’s UCCs utilize a team-based approach. “The medical providers at our Urgent Cares are an amazing group of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants,” says Dr. Jason Moshe Shuker, Associate Medical Director of the UCCs at Westmed. “They have a broad and comprehensive base of medical knowledge that is necessary to address the variety of concerns that patients present to us.”
A patient who visits Westmed should expect care that is both effective and efficient, along with best-in-class service, every single time. A visit begins with a greeting from a friendly and attentive reception staff member, and that level of care continues throughout the experience. “Since we opened our first center in 2005, we made a commitment to prioritizing quality and service. Having experienced, skilled nurses who assess everyone as they are brought into the exam room is a big part of that,” he says. “Our nurses’ knowledge and expertise are invaluable to the patient experience at Westmed.”
The My Westmed Patient Portal Allows Patients to Manage Their Health On-the-Go
Additionally, Westmed’s state-of-the-art facilities ensure patients have access to proper testing for faster, more accurate diagnoses and treatment. While UCCs at Westmed often provide patients with in-office testing for common illnesses, these centers are unique in their ability to conduct advanced laboratory services and advanced imaging capability directly on-site, including X-ray, ultrasound and CT scans.
“Patients also benefit from our coordinated care with the larger Westmed team, since we have the ability to call on the expertise of top medical specialists for consultation pertaining to diagnosis and treatment plans,” says Dr. Shuker. The communication among providers ensures that patients receive appropriate primary and specialty care follow-up after their Urgent Care visit, often the same day or next. In addition, Westmed patients have access to their personal health record through the My Westmed Online Patient Portal, which allows them to view lab and imaging results and communicate with their provider.
In January 2018, Westmed was recognized by the Urgent Care Association of America for the highest level of distinction, “Accredited Urgent Care”. The team has achieved this by meeting and exceeding criteria for quality of care, scope of services, and patient safety. Of approximately 9,000 urgent care centers in the U.S., only a small percentage achieves accreditation.
