They say if you can’t do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly. Much as we love fine art, junior Picassos we are not, so we might need a little liquid courage to really enjoy the process.

Luckily, Westchester is home to several regular ‘paint & sip’ meet-ups — some BYOB and others bona fide bars — to help us learn how to love painting pourly.

Painting With a Twist

Scarsdale
914.468.6868

Specially designed to serve the boozy Bob Ross crowd, this franchise offers two-hour ($35 to $39) and three-hour ($45) instructional classes for painters of every age in both public and private group sessions. Excepting Family Days, Kid Classes, and children’s parties, all regular classes are exclusively 18+ and BYOB. Come with any food and drinks you like, PWAT supplies all the art materials and professional instruction you could need.

Bonus: There’s a cash bar in case you underestimate how much alcohol it takes to make you a creative genius.

The Rye Arts Center

Rye
914.967.0700

While you might think of the RAC as more of a place for kids to interact with art or a gallery, you can absolutely get your drink-and-Dali on. Every week the RAC holds its version of “Thirsty Thursdays,” alternating BYOB paint, clay, and stitch nights.

Classes run a little under three hours starting at 6:15 p.m. and are 21-and-over only. Classes start with a simple still life and branch off from there, but participants are encouraged to work in their own time and personal style. Classes are $65 (though members receive a discount) and all materials are included.

Pinot’s Palette

Mamaroneck, Tuckahoe

This national chain has two Westchester locations, and a well-stocked beer and wine bar at each. Classes typically run two hours and cost $39 for two hours and $45 for three hours, with weekly “paint what you want” open studio sessions at the Mamaroneck location. Best of all, you can even preview each night’s project straight from the web calendar to see which painting you’d like to create! (You can also bring any food you like, so if you tend to get a hankering for pizza bites when you’re drunk no one’s going to judge you.)

Muse Paintbar

White Plains
914.506.5900

Another larger chain, Muse is a painter’s pub. Snack on bar bites like flatbreads, hummus platters, and decadent fudge brownies, all while sipping on more than 20 beers and wines. Oh, yes, and you’re also painting, ostensibly. Classes typically run $35 or $45 depending on medium (LED-embedded canvas, custom designs of your own pet, glassware you can drink out of again later, etc.), though you can easily see special deals like discounts and free drink offers right from the online visual project calendar.

Chermia Amour at Alvin & Friends

New Rochelle

Hosted by local artist Chermia Amour, New Rochelle’s favorite southern and Caribbean restaurant holds twice-monthly sip and paint sessions to the tune of $40 (including your first drink or either red or white), but you can get $5 off if you sign up in advance online. Amour even offers kid-friendly “Pops & Paint” birthday parties so your kids can have fun while you focus on polishing off that pinot noir!

Drinkable Arts — Westchester

Locations vary because this paint & sip night is fully mobile! The operation started as a small commissions businessness and quickly grew into a come-to-you arts-and-aperitif program. Check their website to see a constantly updating rotation of regular and one-off events in the Westchester area, as well as which projects each night will work on — canvas, flower pots, wine bottles/beer steins, etc. The company doesn't supply the alcohol, so make sure to check your venue beforehand.
