La’Kendra Stith & Nicholas Allman

While La’Kendra and Nicholas didn’t meet until shortly after graduating they’re prospective high schools a few years apart (La’Kendra from White Plains in 2006 and Nicholas from Ossining in 2005) they are essentially a classic high school sweetheart tale.

They started off their relationship slowly, but after a few months, decided to take things more seriously and six happy years later Nicholas proposed.

La’Kendra lives in White Plains and works as an editor at a local television station (WRNN) and Nicholas is from Peekskill and works as a chef at the Black Cat Café in Irvington, New York.

This past Memorial Day Weekend La’Kendra and Nicholas were celebrating both the holiday weekend to kickoff summer and Nicholas’ birthday with a barbeque with family and friends at Nicholas’ house.
As the night was winding down and the guests were tapering off, La’Kendra decided it would be the perfect time to give Nicholas his birthday gift, but as she was doing so, he very suddenly and strangely dashed out of the room.

He came rushing back in bearing a small jewelry box, got down on one knee and told La’Kendra “ I love you.  I’ve always loved you and don’t want to spend another minute without you.”  La’Kendra still in shock by it all hugged him and took the ring, but Nicholas had to ask her again if she would marry him, because with all the commotion, she forgot to tell him “yes”.

La’Kendra was overjoyed with Nicholas’ proposal and despite the late hour, called everyone close to her to share the great news.  “I was so surprised.  I kept saying ‘oh my gosh’ and then ran into Nicholas’ sister’s room and began jumping up and down on her bed in excitement”.

While the engagement was a total surprise to La’Kendra, Nicholas had already asked her father’s permission, as well as conspiring with her mother and his sister to pick out the perfect ring for his soon-to-be-bride.

He was originally planning on proposing later on in the week, while out at a romantic dinner, but was way too excited to wait when he executed his impromptu proposal that fated night.

Wanting to enjoy their engagement, the newly engaged couple is thinking a wedding in the spring of 2014 would suit them just right. “We would like to keep the wedding small and intimate, but we both have big families, so that is probably not going to happen” La’Kendra commented.

So far no concrete plans have been made just yet, although a honeymoon on the beach is definitely in their horizon.
