The Danielle Spirer and David Schneider Engagement

Meet newly engaged couple Danielle Spirer and David Schneider

After being on countless unsuccessful dates on Match.com, David described himself as “extremely cynical.” But when he found and liked Danielle’s profile on the site, and noticed that she lived less than a mile away, he decided to give it one more shot.

Even though Danielle repeatedly wouldn’t respond to him, he persistently continued to contact her, until she agreed to meet with him. It was Danielle’s first experience with online dating, so she had no idea what to expect.

They finally met at Sportime USA in Elmsford for a game of air-hockey. “From the minute we met, we knew we were meant to be together,” David says. “It was the first date that turned into the third date, because we kept coming up with more and more things to do so the date didn’t have to end.”

Many dates followed and, shortly after moving into their second apartment together, Danielle turned to David and asked: “Will you marry me?” This later turned into a family joke, because while it may have sounded like Danielle was proposing to David, she was really asking if he was intending to marry her if she kept living with him.

When it came to the real proposal, “I wanted to do something grand and romantic that Danielle would remember forever,” David says. He originally wanted to surprise her with a boat ride and propose on the water, but after some moderate probing on the subject, he found she often got seasick. His idea of riding in on a white horse was spoiled, too, because they’d both had bad experiences on horses.

“I decided to do something romantic at home,” he says, “and set up a hundred white candles of various shapes and sizes all over our apartment. I had visions similar to The Police music video for ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger.’”

“Video” wasn’t far off. “We own and operate a photography and videography company together called Dideo Films, so I set up cameras all over the apartment to capture the event.”

David literally had to kick Danielle out of the apartment to set it all up, which tipped her off that something big was about to happen. When he finally allowed her back into the apartment, she started crying as soon as she saw all the candles. “After she said ‘yes’, I wanted to get a shot of the candlelight in the reflection of the diamond, but I accidentally spilled hot wax on her. So in a way, I not only proposed, but I branded her as mine,” David says with a chuckle.

For their wedding, they are looking for someplace charismatic and with character; what they refer to as “shabby chic.” And to make the event extra special and personal, they’ve created a documentary for everyone to watch at their wedding that recreates their first date, as well as highlights from all of the different events and highlights leading up to their big day.
