The Kelly Martin – Miguel Cervantes Wedding

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo? For this actress, it turns out he was…right on her living room sofa. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. A lot went down before their curtain rose, starting with the obvious—their common careers.

Act One: Miguel and Kelly are both actors. Miguel hails from Texas; Kelly from Nebraska. Both move to Manhattan in pursuit of acting careers. Both are passionate. Both are unattached. Jeff is Kelly’s roomate and, as fate would have it, also a close friend of Miguel’s. In passing one day, Jeff shows Kelly’s professional head shot picture to Miguel. Miguel immediately asks, “Who is she? I need to meet her.”
Talk about love at first sight.

Act Two: It’s a lazy football Sunday in January, 2006. During half-time, Jeff sees the perfect opportunity for his two dear friends to finally meet. In typical ruse fashion, he texts Kelly and asks her to “get home immediately.” Hearing the urgency in his voice, she complies, expecting to find some sort of disaster awaiting her. Instead, there sit Jeff and Miguel, munching on nachos, chugging a few beers, and watching football. Kelly immediately forgets why she flew home. Introductions are made and, from there, the two become an item. Movie over, Bogie and Bacall.

Act Three: Kelly eventually moves in with Miguel. They enjoy every day as a precious gift, building a Silver-Screen-sized love story. The relationship flourishes, with conversation moving toward the direction of marriage but nothing officially planned. At times, the couple struggles with long-distance issues as they come up. Miguel goes on a national Broadway tour for ten months. Kelly, having always had the desire to help the needy abroad, plans a mission to Africa, to stay for one month and help out at a struggling orphanage. This lights Miguel’s heart with pride. He had never met such a caring woman as her before, and has to help her out in any way that he can. Being a musician as well as an actor, Miguel puts together a band, organizing a benefit concert and fundraiser in support of Kelly’s project.

Act Four: A huge audience attends the concert, filled with mutual loved ones from near and far. Somewhere during this event, Miguel shifts the mood, slows down the tempo, and begins to sing a love song. Taking the crowd by surprise, he pulls out Kelly’s grandmother’s engagement ring from his pocket, gets down on one knee, and proposes. The crowd gasps. Then, round upon round of applause. Of course, Kelly gives Miguel a resounding “Yes!” The curtain falls.

Final Act: The fireworks flew from the start between these two. Fittingly, they choose to get married at the Crabtree’s Kittle House on July 4, 2009, wanting to infuse a bit of Independence Day into their reception. In this spirit, a good old-fashioned barbeque with grilled goodies such as shrimp skewers and barbequed corn on the cob kicks off the festivities. A sit-down dinner follows, finished by two scrumptious cakes ala Lulu Cake Boutique: one, an opulent wedding cake; the other, a groom’s cake shaped and decorated as a Dallas Cowboy’s helmet. Two perfect endings to a perfect day.

Curtain Calls: Ironically, Kelly confesses that she had two specific criteria for that perfect guy. She candidly shares them with Westchester Magazine:

Her future betrothed could not under any circumstances whatsoever be an actor. (Enough said.)
He had to be at least six feet tall or more. (They are about the same height)

Needless to say, this all went out the window when she met Miguel.

When asked what the magic between them is, Kelly replies: “Like in show biz, we’ll always have our ups and downs, but all of that aside, I am with a charming and amazing man who will give me a happy life. What else is there?”
