The Diana Kirkwood and Peter Merritt Wedding
The bride and groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day.
These days, finding your true love on the Internet is more common than marrying your high school sweetheart. But rarely are the parents of two people the matchmakers, as is the case with these two lovebirds.
Diana Kirkwood and Peter Merritt were introduced to each other by their parents on the green of the Whippoorwill Country Club. It took only a few holes for Diana and Peter to hit it off—both literally and figuratively. After just a few dates, Peter made the bold move of asking Diana to join his family and close friends on a vacation in Montauk. With things moving so fast, Diana was concerned that he might be a “player,” but her fears were unfounded. Turns out that this was Peter’s first relationship. He had been waiting all this time to find “the right girl.”
On March 31, of 2010, he realized that he had indeed found the One. Peter had a romantic proposal all mapped out. He decorated the apartment they’d moved into together with hundreds of candles that were not only lit on every surface, but spelled out her name. With tears in her eyes, she accepted.
Waiting to see his bride for the first time on the grand staircase.
Their wedding was traditional, with the ceremony taking place at Manhattanville’s spacious O’Byrne Chapel. They had their receiving line in the stunning Reid Castle. The celebration continued further at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club, where the bride and groom danced the night away.
This bride stood out in her gorgeous La Richi Couture dress from Fontana’s in Scarsdale, especially with her color scheme including bright bursts of turquoise. To make the dress unique and fun for the reception, she had it altered so that the bottom of it could be removed for dancing, which turned her gown into a shorter dress. After recovering from the wedding, the newlyweds had an intimate and adventurous honeymoon in Kuaui and Maui in Hawaii. They spent time playing golf, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, taking a cooking class, and enjoying a romantic couple’s massage. When asked if this was the wedding of her dreams, the bride responded, “I never dreamed about my wedding before I met Peter. I didn't want to plan everything out, or have my hopes set on anything without my future husband's input, but it was the wedding of our dreams.”
