Holiday Movies: It's (Almost) the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The Jack O'Lanterns are just finding their ways to the garbage—but that hasn't stopped Christmas from making its presence known. Even though I'm not yet ready for it, I get why CVS would put out all of its holiday decorations now, and why Hershey's would start running the commercials where the kisses look like bells and play "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." They want to panic you into buying stuff. There are, after all, only 46 shopping days until Christmas.

Martha Marcy May Marlene pits the Catskills Against Connecticut

In terms of scary movies, the big money went to Paranormal Activity 3 this weekend, but the smaller, quieter Martha Marcy May Marlene got better reviews, at least according to Metacritic. It's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison. Martha Marcy May Marlene isn't your typical scary movie. There's nothing paranormal about it, and there's no menacing slasher with a butcher knife picking off teens one by one. Instead, its scares are psychological.

Moneyball Movie Roundup: Box Office Results and Critical Responses to Moneyball, Directed by Former Mamaroneck High School Alum Bennett Miller

There are a lot reasons to check out Moneyball. It had Brad Pitt at his most Robert Redfordy. Jonah Hill does the hangdog-apprentice thing pretty well. And, of course, if you're interested in baseball—or the even more exciting game of baseball statistics—there's no other movie out right now with more baseball (statistics) in it.
