Any Emmys?

Photo credit: Larry Riley / FX

Emmy nominees won't be announced officially until July 17, but the "short lists" of finalists already have leaked and circulated on the blogosphere. What would we do without the Internet?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to be an exciting telecast for Westchester viewers. Even though Emmy categories are divided between “actor” and “actress” and “comedy” and “drama”—and even though shortlists are hardly short, having around 10 names each—there are very few locals among the potential nominees.

Thank goodness for our ladies, right? I'm talking about Bedford's Glenn Close and Chappaqua's Vanessa Williams. Both are vying for Best Actress statues—Close for Damages and Williams for Ugly Betty. And, since one is a drama and the other is a comedy, they're not even competing against each other. That makes for two categories we can be at least slightly interested in.

Other than our fearless females, the only other local nominee is Stanley Tucci, who I guess had some sort of guest acting appearance on E.R. this year that might get him a nomination. I feel like whenever I'm writing about awards, be they for movies, TV, or audiobook recordings, Tucci winds up nominated somehow. He really knows how to work the system.

And, of course, there's Alec Baldwin, who's on the shortlist for his brilliant portrayal of business mogul Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock. Wait, he doesn't live here? Well, some of the Baldwins do, so I'm counting it. We have to widen our net a little to just get a few more horses in the race.

In fact, I'm now considering ex-girlfriends of residents, and ex-girlfriends of ex-residents, to be unofficial residents. Any guesses as to whom I might be talking about? The first is an ex of possible nominee Stanley Tucci and a co-star with not-quite-local actor Alec Baldwin. Edie Falco's on the list for her portrayal of the bleeding-heart Celeste Cunningham, Donaghy's forbidden love on 30 Rock. I was never a Sopranos fan—don't hate me, I just don't get HBO—but Falco is pitch-perfect as the yin to Baldwin's yang, so I hope a real nomination comes through. As for the ex-girlfriend of an ex-resident, I'm talking about Kristin Chenoweth, who once dated Scarsdale High School grad Aaron Sorkin. (Rumor has it she was the inspiration for Sarah Paulson's character in Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but Chenoweth is funny and Studio 60 was not.) Chenoweth plays the delightful Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies. Yeah, she really doesn't belong here because her connection to the county is so far-fetched—but I really, really love Pushing Daisies.

Stay tuned to see if any of these "short list" names turn into real nominees. If you're interested, the full lists are below, courtesy of the "Gold Derby" coverage of the LA Times.
