08/19/08Locally Grown Music
It's the tail-end of summer, but man, you guys haven't been slacking off at all. I've gotten so many e-mails recently about Westchester residents who, instead of whiling away the days reading at the park like a certain pop-culture editor, devoted their summertime to making new music. 08/12/08Your Olympic TV Strategy
So the Olympics got off on the right foot with some totally insane opening ceremonies. I wish I had a legion of people in boxes at my command that I can make pretty patterns with. That was awesome. At first, I was bummed because it looked like no current Westchester residents were going to Beijing. (Are we a county of couch potatoes?) But it turns out one Westchester resident was represented at the games: Ralph Lauren. The Bedford designer created the outfits worn by the U.S. team in the opening ceremonies. Associate Editor Marisa LaScala joined Westchester Magazine in 2003, and ever since she's blown every paycheck at the Greenburgh Multiplex. She also staunchly defends Richard Kelly, doesn't mind spoiling the endings of trashy movies you're curious about but don't want to pay to see, wishes the Hold Steady would come and rock out Westchester, misses Arrested Development more than anyone can imagine, and still watches cartoons and Saturday Night Live. You can find more of her cultural criticism at www.popmatters.com, where she is a staff writer.
