After 42 years, the owners who custom built this Waccabuc gem—a 1970 four-bedroom contemporary that blends comfort with dramatic design—are putting it on the market for the first time. Its many cleverly crafted features include a one-with-nature design that takes full advantage of its nearly two and one-half acre natural setting thanks to walls of windows, soaring vaulted ceilings, and generous use of natural materials like stone and wood throughout the 3,713 square-foot interior. “The house truly reflects the ties of the homeowners to Venice and their passion for cooking,” says listing agent Hope Mazzola. “The back of the house is dedicated to cooking and entertaining. They even created a walk-in pantry that fills an entire room. The flow is also wonderful for entertaining and almost every room has access to decks, making it feel like a weekend retreat.” Signs of the Italian influence can be spotted throughout from the rustic chef’s kitchen (“cucina rustica”) where multiple cooks can feel right at home to the palatial master bedroom suite with its luxurious ensuite Palazzo bath. Even the grounds have a retreat-like feel, but don’t look for a traditional flat lawn in the mature, serene pond-side landscape.
