Kitchen of the Month

Westchester Magazine’s DreamHome 2009

When thinking about the design of the DreamHome Kitchen, Bilotta designer Randy O’Kane “wanted to get away from the traditional white kitchen”. Instead, Randy took inspiration from the Arts and Crafts style of the house and combined this style with Asian accents. The features of the kitchen that recall the Arts and Crafts style include beveled inset cabinets with pyramid-shaped hardware. The bamboo stools and breakfast table definitely suggest an Asian feel. The SubZero refrigerator is hidden behind red panels with hand-painted gold stenciling. Metallic elements gleam throughout the kitchen, from the walls to the beautiful satin-finish pendant that hangs over the breakfast table. The kitchen island is a grand and wide custom-built reclaimed wood countertop with hammered-metal corners. It’s design was “inspired by a Louis Vuitton trunk,” O’Kane says. The island is complete with state-of the art appliances, like a pull-out microwave and a refrigerator drawer and food pantry.

Other wonderful features of the Bilotta kitchen include vintage red oak wood floors from Antique and Vintage Woods; range hood detailing by Rutt; Cifial wall-mount sink and four-hole sink from Central Plumbing; a Murray Feiss lighting from Hi-Light Decorating; a Sharp pull-out microwave oven, SubZero refrigerator, Wolfe dual-fuel range, Miele dishwasher and espresso machine – all from Leiberts Royal Green; marble countertops and sinks from Marble America; and ceramic kitchen backsplash and glass backsplash from Waterworks.
