Hudson Sinclair Makes His Appearance

Hi there. It’s me, Maisie. Mommy’s in the hospital today so I’m filling in for her. It’s not a big deal or anything. I mean, she’s fine and all. It’s just that she had a baby yesterday.

That’s right! I am officially a big sister! Wahoo! We’ve been on pins and needles waiting to find out the sex. Finally, we know. It’s a boy!

Hudson Sinclair made his appearance at 8:07 AM and White Plains Hospital will never be the same. Weighing in at six pounds, 14 ounces, my brother (that's so cool to write—“MY BROTHER!”) measured 18 ½ inches long.

It really isn’t cheap to have a family these days, is it? Taking your kid to a baseball game in New York City costs the same as taking a family vacation did when I was a kid. Heck, even a movie for four is a bank-breaker.

Ugh. Summer is here. I’m not a big fan of hot, sticky, humid days—the kind of days that make your arm pits resemble swimming pools. Of course, part of me loves summer—the part that likes to eat. Oh man, there’s nothing better than fresh berries, corn grilled over an open flame or—something I’d forgotten—Popsicles!

Her assignments as a correspondent for CBS’ The Early Show took her everywhere from a showgirl stage in Vegas to the murky waters of Katrina. Murphy’s writings have also been published in several books about journalism and, specifically, 9/11. Additionally, she was one of the editors for Covering Catastrophe: Broadcast Journalists Report September 11. In 2008, Murphy traded in her reporter’s notebook for a diaper bag.
