Peekskill's New Gateway Apartments Offer Affordable Upscale Living
New townhomes are the latest in a series of moves to bring a more cost-effective luxury lifestyle to Northern Westchester.
The project is the first new construction in this section of Peekskill in 65 years.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Peekskill is in the midst of a renaissance. In the latest development, local administrators were on hand to commemorate the opening of the new Gateway Apartments at 700 Main Street, so named for its prime location right at the edge of the hip downtown area and both train and automotive commuter transport.
The $5.2 million project includes 16 row house-style townhomes, each with a two-car garage and either two or three bedrooms. A gazebo out back is still under construction, while Lepore Park next door and the Kiley Youth Center across the street offer scenic recreation. Commuters who’d rather not travel Route 9A every day will especially enjoy the free shuttle to Peekskill’s Metro-North station, which residents will share with their future neighbors from Fort Hill Apartments at The Abbey Inn.
“We’re a business but we’re more than a business. We’re designers, architects, planners, and everyone up and down the line has an interest in giving back,” says Martin Ginsberg, principal and founder of Ginsburg Development Companies (GDC), the company behind both Gateway and the Fort Hill projects. “This wonderful new residential development will provide an attractive gateway to the City of Peekskill which is undergoing an exciting renaissance.” He adds, “We are particularly pleased to offer reasonably priced condominium living that is convenient to Downtown Peekskill and its many great restaurants and shops.”
Each condominium unit includes an entryway and den/office/guest room along with the garage and laundry on the first floor, living and dining rooms on the second beside the eat-in kitchen, and a third floor with either two or three bedrooms. Units range from 1,756 to 1,915 square feet, and sport variations on two or two-and-a-half bathroom layouts. 14 of the homes will be prices at market rates starting at $335,000, while the remaining two units (both two-bedroom) will be made available at workforce housing rates for those earning up to 80% of median county income.
“Peekskill has come a long way and continues to grow,” says Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey. “The Peekskill we dream of still lies ahead. Housing, power, water and sanitation for all; bank accounts and insurance for every citizen; connected and prosperous, smart and sustainable cities. The Gateway is one of the first projects that welcomes this dream come true.”
