Bridal Magazines Everywhere!
Anyone who knows me will tell you I love magazines. I’ve always collected them, and they are mostly hip-hop music related, with sprinkles of indie rock, soul, and pop culture. I’ve got all the sickest old issues of The Source, like the one where they gave Nas' Illmatic album the covet five mics review, or Biggie’s first cover issue with him standing next to the Twin Towers. I even have the first issue of XXL Magazine with Jay-Z on the cover. And I have all my favorite issues of
Rolling Stone magazine, like the one with Borat on the cover, and other random mags with cover photos of The Shins, Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, A Tribe Called Quest, and all my other heroes of sound and stage. I keep them all in a huge bin in our closet, stacked with issues from the past FIFTEEN YEARS or so. Looks like we’re going to need another bin JUST FOR DANA’S WEDDING MAGAZINES.
I never really noticed how many different wedding magazines there are. There’s
Westchester Weddings (which, full disclosure, here, has been very helpful),
Brides,
In Style Weddings,
The Knot,
Real Simple Weddings,
Inside Weddings, and a host of others. I can recall being in Borders with Dana prior to our engagement and her vowing not to read any of them until it was her time. But once that ring was on her finger, it was a wrap.
It’s cool though, because there’s really nothing I would rather do on a weekend afternoon with her than go get a coffee and read magazines in Borders. It’s a low cost and fun way to spend quality time together. I can’t bring myself to look at the Bridal mags, though I quietly see her filing away ripped out pages of dresses and table centerpieces that she likes. Still I wonder; do they make any magazines for the groom to be?
