What's Better Than Breakfast Pizza and Mimosa Carafes on a Patio?

Madison Kitchen’s new outdoor space adds another reason to try its brunch offerings.

Good brunch destinations are always a hot topic — Westchesterites love a good leisurely weekend meal with flowing mimosas and a relatively inexpensive check. It’s one of the questions I’m asked most frequently as a magazine editor in charge of food and dining coverage. (Another popular query is, How do you stay so thin dining out at all the new restaurants? Answer: “I have two extra stomachs, including one exclusively for dessert and anything involving cheese.”)

French toast sticks.

At Madison Kitchen in Larchmont, the brunch has a few straight-on standards (eggs Benedict, house-made ricotta crostini, a beet and goat cheese salad) but the bulk of the offerings are interesting takes on classic brunch dishes.

You should also know that Chef Nick Di Bona loves small plates and is a bit of a specialist in that regard, so, much like his dinner menu, you won’t find much in the way of big ’ole gut-busting-sized plates of food.

An assortment of small plates.

A vegetarian option that even the most ardent meat-lover will want to try is the roasted eggplant meatballs, made with breadcrumbs, Parmesan, and garlic and covered in red sauce. Also the crispy polenta fries, served with roasted pistachio honey and Parmigiano-Reggiano, and the indulgently creamy truffle gnocchi, are winning dishes.

Chef Di Bona also recently set up a patio behind the restaurant, which is great timing as September is perhaps the best outdoor dining weather month in Westchester with average daily high temps at about 76°F.

Enjoy the following gallery of dishes at Madison, and see if you can resist not making it your next weekend brunch outing.
