This is a hot-button issue among diners, who may be trying to negotiate the confusing (and ever-changing) guidelines for eating sustainably-fished seafood. Swordfish was out, now it’s in—and your tiny wallet placards listing sustainable fish always get lost. Keenan Winery at X2O

From the invitation: “From the Napa Valley and the Spring Mountain District...the 2007 Vintage is a legend in the making...come taste pure perfection in a glass paired with the Hudson Valley cuisine of Peter X. Kelly. X2O and Peter X. Kelly are so happy to welcome Michael Keenan as he presents the spectacular wines of his family's Keenan Winery.  We will present a multi-course tasting that will offer a delicious exploration of the 2007 vintage from this Napa Valley legend.
High in the Mayacamas Range, at an elevation of 1,700 feet above the Napa Valley floor, are Spring Mountain and the Robert Keenan Winery and vineyards. The site was first planted in the late 19th century, then abandoned to the mountain forest until 1974 when Robert Keenan purchased 180 acres of forest on the defunct Conradi Winery site. No vines remained. Only the crumbling walls of the former winery and a few old broken tanks told of its history, but Robert was certain the mountain top vineyards would be perfect for an estate winery. He replaced tree stumps and rocks with rows of Cabernet and Chardonnay and after a first harvest in 1977 Keenan has earned a great reputation for producing wines of intense character and renowned acclaim.”

Did you see Tristram Shandy? (Or, as I suspect, am I the only one?)  How about 24 Hour Party People?  Or, if you must, Night at the Museum? In his latest release, Steve Coogan (who starred in all of those films) pairs up with his double-act partner, Rob Brydon, for the The Trip – a film whose premise is that Coogan is asked visit the best restaurants in Britain for an article in the Observer.

When his girlfriend drops out, Coogan is saddled with his irritating comedic partner – and travel, restaurant criticism, and hilarity ensue.  For groupies of critics, this film might offer some insight into the cultural dynamics that allow the phenomenon of English critics like Jay Rayner to occur Look for opening comments from Jeff Gordinier, staff writer for the Dining section of the New York Times.
