Well folks, the results are in from the first elimination round in our Ultimate Westchester Candy Showdown, and Round 1 led to some surprisings upsets and narrow victories (and a few complete non-surprises). In the Chocolate Conference, Reese's Cups blew their piecemeal counterparts out of the water with a staggering 85.78 percent of the vote to secure their rightful place as the superior candy belonging to someone names Reese.
Twix beat out 3 Musketeers in about a 2-to-1 vote. D'Artagnan has sworn revenge.
Kit-Kat laid all four fingers on Butterfinger in another 2-to-1 K.O.
M&Ms trounced Milky Way by about the same.
Snickers dominated Baby Ruth with about a 71 percent majority. Could a Halloween "Curse of the Bambino" be far behind?
Almond Joy narrowly edged out 100 Grand Bar in a 56-44 decision.
Junior Mints and Milk Duds were even closer at 54-46.
Lastly, Hershey Bar pulverized its Cookie-inclusive cousin with 82 percent of the vote.
As for the Non-Chocolate Conference, Sour Patch Kids blew Warheads away 87-13.
Twizzlers beat Hot Tamales with nearly 90 percent of the vote.
Nerds squeaked past Dots 52-48.
Starburst beat Skittles 58-42.
Laffy Taffy barely made it past Airheads with a 51.14 percent majority.
Smarties, in what must be an incredibly painful moment for Editor John Bruno Turiano, defeated Candy Corn by the slimmest margin of the week: 1.11 percent!
Tootsie Roll Pop finished off it's non-digestible brother Blow Pop 2-to-1.
Finally, in the contest that saw no winners, only two losers vying for who will get eliminated in Round 2, Those Wrapped Grandma Hard Candies That Look Like Little Strawberries managed a thin lead over Individual Boxes of Raisins, thus asserting their superiority over real fruit.
