Halloween. When else can you dress up in silly costumes, act like an idiot, and get paid in candy? Love!
Bugs and Brews at The New York Botanical Garden
October 28, 7 pm

Listen. We’re talking a dreamy nighttime garden of artfully carved pumpkins, copious craft beer poured by candlelight, and the opportunity to rub shoulders with spooky creatures as they walk the night. I’ve even heard that there will be a fabulously gorgeous food writer serving big-butt ant brittle http://www.theworld.org/2011/05/ants-colombia-hormiga-culona/, lovingly handcrafted in her immaculately clean kitchen. Stop by, drink a few beers, and get creepy with the rest of us ghouls—you might even learn some valuable things from David Gracer, an advocate of traditional foodways (that happen to involve eating insects). The evening will be held at the nearby New York Botanical Garden, and it promises to be a magical fall event.
Halloween Eve at The Cookery

Shut the front door. Two great, spooky food events in one night? And one that promises perversions and debauchery? Looks like I’ll be here, too. From the announcement, “Join us at The Cookery for a night of ghoulish gastronomic perversions and diabolical debauchery.” Menu to include: beef tongue ($10), pork cheeks ($9), pork belly ($9), bone marrow ($13), beef heart ($8), veal brains ($11). Those not in the holiday spirit can find lasagna ($10) and crack potatoes ($7), too, but frankly, that’s lame. For more info, call (914) 305-2336
