Baked By Susan Is Here To Help You Celebrate National Pi Day
Thank god for homophones. Tomorrow is 3/14, better known as National Pi Day, and while math geniuses may be excited to prove how many decimal places they can recite, for the rest of us, it’s a lot more fun to celebrate with pie.
Baked by Susan in Croton-on-Hudson is capitalizing on the holiday with some special math of its own — rollback sales on some of the bakery's most popular items! Susan's super popular mini-pies, normally $8.50 will now only be $6, making a sampler four-pack at $24 less than a full-size pie! (Oh, but full-size fans, your decimals have also received a rollback, from the usual $24.50 to an even $20. Decisions decisions.)
In 2015, when National Pi Day fell on a Saturday, the bakery sold over 500 mini pies, says owner Susan O’Keefe. Since, they have routinely sold-out. “It’s become a little bit of a buzz and people have been asking me if we’re going to be selling pies on Pi Day” again this year.
Considering she’s making everything from the crust to the filling from scratch, it’s no wonder people are buzzing. Chocolate cream pie, made the old-fashioned way, is the biggest seller. There’s also cherry (Susan’s favorite), apple crumb, blueberry, coconut custard, Key lime, triple berry (strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry), and pumpkin, just to name a few.
“People go crazy for the little pies because you don’t always have an occasion to have a big pie,” says O’Keefe. “People loved it last year because they could make a sampler for a good price.”
