4 Places to Get Creamy, Delicious Mac ’N’ Cheese This Weekend

Did we mention National Mac ’N’ Cheese Day is July 14?

As if we need an excuse to indulge in a little cheesy pasta, this Sunday is National Mac ’N’ Cheese Day. Whether you’re Team Breadcrumbs, want an upgraded version of your childhood favorite, or are looking for a little added heat, these four spots have cheese-pull-worthy bowls at the ready.

Dig Inn

112 S Ridge St, Rye Brook; 914.305.8463

Yes, it’s a chain, and we’re fine with that when the mac ’n cheese is this good. Dig Inn applies its carefully sourced ethos to its mac, made with a custom, three-cheese blend from Vermont’s cultish Jasper Hill Farm.

The kicker: a thick layer of crispy golden breadcrumbs.

Pepe’s Place

560 North Ave, New Rochelle; 914.632.7373

This hole-in-the-wall soul-food restaurant in downtown New Rochelle has only a few seats, but that didn’t stop Southern Living from naming in the best mac ’n’ cheese in New York State.

While we haven’t done the legwork to confirm that accolade, we can say that Pepe’s version, made with cave-aged reserved cheddar, is a classic.

Revenge BBQ

48 Main St, Irvington; 914.674.4848

The mac ’n’ cheese at Jacob Styburski’s Texas-style barbecue joint has all the creamy, comforting nostalgia of the stovetop stuff you grew up with — but with a hefty dose of punchy black pepper (perfect for pairing with some of his excellent brisket).

A trio of cheddar, Gruyère, and American create the platonic ideal of nutty, cheesy flavor and luscious, silky sauce.

Southern Table

39 Marble Ave, Pleasantville; 914.618.3355

Bacon and pickled jalapeños take this super-sized serving of mac ’n’ cheese to a truly addictive place, adding just enough tang, spice, and smoke to keep things interesting. Plus, there will probably be enough to take home and have leftovers for days (or not).
