Gorgeous Cakes That Taste Good, Too

Butter Ink’s Mariana Bulfamante loves creating eye-catching custom cakes.

When it comes to cakes, you often have to sacrifice either presentation or taste — a beautiful, extravagantly decorated cake that just tastes okay or a delicious cake that looks basic. With her company, Butter Ink, New Rochelle’s Mariana Bulfamante is changing the game, so you can have your beautiful cake and (enjoy) eating it, too.

Bulfamante started working in the food industry when she was fifteen as a waitress for Modern Restaurant & Lounge in New Rochelle. She realized she had a passion for baking and decided to attend Johnson & Wales University, where she studied cake art. When she returned home, she began baking for a local bakery, but felt unsatisfied. She decided to open up her own company, Butter Ink, so she could “show her artwork and not just repeat wedding designs.” She looks to wedding cake designer Ron Ben Israel and custom-cake creator Mike McCarey as inspiration, as their cakes continue to show creativity and artistic vision.

Butter Ink currently does not have a storefront, but has numerous products available to buy online. Bulfamente makes cookies, cake-pops, cannoli, and, of course, her signature cakes, baked upon order. She has created cakes that look like wine bottles, shopping bags, and beloved Disney characters. The decorations are completely handmade, from the molding to the painting.

Prices typically begin at about $40 and change based upon customization requests. Interested customers can look to order Butter Ink’s cakes by going to either the Facebook or Instagram pages.
