Stone Barns Center's Grow Your Own: Popsicles

Sure you can pour some A&W or orange juice in an ice tray, freeze it, and tell your kids it’s a special homemade treat, but that would be pushing the definition of the word “homemade” to an obscene limit. Instead, for a true homemade popsicle creation, take the Grow Your Own: Popsicles class taught by Fany Gerson at the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture on August 2 from 1 to 2:30 pm. Gerson, celebrated pastry chef and founder of La Newyorkina, a Brooklyn-based, small-batch Mexican sweets company that was nominated for a James Beard Award: Baking and Desserts in 2011, will showcase some of her favorite flavor-packed ice-pops (known as paletas in Mexico) made with ingredients fresh from the farm, like fruits, flowers, nuts, and spices. Taste a variety of these seasonal treats, learn Gerson’s tips for making them yourself, and take home her simple recipes.
