5 Time-Honored Treats We’re Eating This August

Our dining editors’ monthly roundup of what to eat in Westchester.

Carbonara comeback @paxromana_ny #whiteplains

Spaghetti alla Carbonara at TVB by: Pax Romana

171 E Post Rd, White Plains; 914.831.3303

Finally! More than a year after its original (and very popular) location closed due to a landlord dispute, Pax Romana has reopened just down the street. We’re happy to report that the authentic carbonara — fresh, housemade pasta tossed with a rich sauce of egg yolks, guanciale, pecorino, and black pepper — hasn’t changed.

Fried Clams at Leno’s Clam Bar

755 Pelham Rd, New Rochelle; 914.636.5503

A basket of fried clams at cash-only Leno’s (aka Greasy Nick’s) is a Westchester summer tradition as beloved as riding the Dragon Coaster, grabbing a soft serve at King Kone, or ordering a single with mustard at Walter’s. The ideally greasy burger (get it with onions) is also one of our favorites.

Stuffed Grape Leaves Platter at Irvington Delight

2 S Broadway, Irvington; 914.479.5600

When it’s too hot to turn on the oven (thanks, August), we like to head to this Middle Eastern deli. The order: the stuffed grape leaves platter that comes with a swoosh of silky hummus, herb-flecked tomato-cucumber salad, and pita.

IT’S HEEEEERE!!! Hudson Valley Restaurant Week is heeeere, and we tend to agree with @i_on_the_valley on this excellent choice of a starter! Come by today or call 914-242-8800 to reserve your seat before this deal is gone! • REPOST: Staying warm on this cold Friday with Lasooni Gobi - Cauliflower florets with a garlic chili sauce. Just the right amount of spice ! Lasooni Gobi at Little Drunken Chef

36 Main St, Mount Kisco; 914.242.8800

From creamy purées to cauliflower rice, we’re honestly getting a little tired of this seems-to-be-everywhere Brassica. But then we tried Chef Bonnie Saran’s lasooni gobi — deep fried florets, coated in a sweet, tangy, garlic-chili sauce — that reminded us how much we loved this veg in the first place.

Gelato at La Fenice

3 Purdy Ave, Rye; 914.305.2487

All the gelato here — classic chocolate, stracciatella, amarena cherry, sea-salt caramel, and hazelnut — is made by Simona Silvestri who studied gelato-making and pastry in her native Italy. As with the original location in Greenwich, La Fenice Rye also serves strong coffee and plenty of Italian pastries.
