Threading New Waters

I've never really noticed eyebrows. I look at eyes instead. Sometimes noses. But I couldn’t care less about checking out the curve, the shape--or the lack thereof--of someone’s eyebrows. That is, until now.

After enduring many months (could it have been years?) of playful (I hope) admonishing from friends about how awful my eyebrows looked—one so nicely told me they resembled half moons over my eyes, and, seriously, didn't I know that's not what they're supposed to look like?—I decided to do something about it.

On December 19 of last year, I began growing out my eyebrows. I didn't touch them, at all, which actually proved to be quite cathartic. And timesaving. After a while, though, enough was enough. I felt like...

Dressing for a Cause

Singer Rufus Wainwright might have never lived in Westchester, but he comes from a long line of family members who have: singer/actor father Loudon III and aunt Sloan, grew up in Bedford and Sloan still lives here. So, when I found out that Rufus had recently designed a tank top for the Fashion Against AIDS campaign for H&M, I felt the Westchester connection was alive and well—and that you should know about it. And since I’m a lover of all things H&M, what could be better?

The campaign is by H&M and Designers Against AIDS, a non-profit organization that raises AIDS awareness by soliciting celebs and musicians to design clothing for the cause. The shirts, tank tops and hoodies in this line will start selling at H&M in early...

A Thong...For Your Feet?

I completely understand that sometimes it's hard to come up with new ideas. Really, I do. But when I got wind of this new product yesterday I couldn't help but stop and think: huh?

It's called a Foothong. As in, foot thong. Basically, it's a knee-high stocking where the foot has been cut, and the wearer is left with a piece of material to slip between any of her toes. Designed by Mic, the company says it can go from "the boardroom to the bedroom" and the website offers photos of women wearing them with open-toe shoes and sandals.

Now, I understand that tights are in fashion. I understand that thongs are too. But together?...

What's Old is New Again

It seems that everyone has finally gotten back into the swing of things post-holidays. And although last year definitely had its highlights (we launched this blog, after all!), I’m ready for bigger and better things.

Which is why it’s funny—and slightly ironic—that as I was contemplating what to post for this (second) entry of the New Tear, I couldn’t help but think of the past. Let me explain. I saw lots of movies over the break: Atonement; Charlie Wilson’s War; a late-night, re-run of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I mention these because aside from the fact that they were all great, I couldn’t help but notice the CLOTHES. They were fabulous. And as someone who never jumped on the...

New Year, More Sales

Happy 2008 all! I’ve just come back a vacation filled with too much eating, drinking and shopping, so while I continue to sift through this ridiculously cluttered email inbox, I’ll make it short and sweet and leave you with a few sales I found:

March in Briarcliff Manor (914-923-2100) starts its fall sale on January 5, with everything up to 70 percent off.

I was in Bloomingdale’s a few days ago and found jeans at 40 percent off —although, of course, I opted for the not-on-sale pair of Sevens. Note to short people though, Seven for all Mankind has a line called Flip Flop, which are shorter than normal (presumably for wearing with flip flops) but are the perfect length for...
