On Our Radar: Tory Burch Eau de Parfum
A balanced, layered, great perfume that’s sure to be an instant classic
Your flats are bedecked with gold medallions and her sumptuous leather handbags have a standing reservation in the crook of your arm. Now, Tory Burch brings her well-heeled disciples yet another way to exude her brand of easy, sophisticated class with an Estée Lauder-produced perfume, which, the label describes, “captures classic elements in unexpected ways.”
“Tomboy meets feminine,” says the (billionaire) designer, is what to expect from the bright, complex blend of floral notes—peony and tuberose; and crisp citrus—grapefruit and neroli. The standout is earthy vetiver, which, Burch explained to WWD, was inspired by family: "I wanted the vetiver because not only did my father wear it, I did, too, and so did my brothers." (The retro, gold-and-orange packaging was inspired by her mother’s vintage perfume bottle collection.)
Venturing into beauty—à la recent launches from Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs—Burch is accelerating the formula, debuting her complementary cosmetics line this week, in addition to the parfum, now available in stores exclusively at Bloomingdale’s. Look out for a neutral lipstick, a rosy lip/cheek duo, bronzer/blush palette, and a retractable brush.
"I don't have a lot of time to get ready in the morning,” Burch told WWD, “so we did a lip and cheek in one—that's how I often do it; I'll put lipstick on my cheeks [as blush] if I only want to bring one thing out with me." Prices range from $32 for the lipstick to $150 for the perfume in solid form.
