Shopping Alert! Topshop at Nordstrom
Westchester gets a dose of British fashion from the trendy store (Kate Moss is a fan).
First, we were blessed with the news that Euro fast-fashion mecca Zara would be moving into the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers (slated to open by the end of the year). Now, the shopping gods have bequeathed us with yet another offshoot of one of the most enviable mass-market chains from across the pond. Yes, ladies—TOPSHOP is here!
Formerly, the fashion faithful, such as myself, could only get their (Br)it-girl style fix by schlepping down to SoHo (and, more often than not, paying something unholy for parking), or squeezing in a trip while in the UK every blue moon or so. Now, 28 brand new TOPSHOP departments are taking over at select Nordstrom locations Stateside, including—thank your closet’s lucky stars—our very own.
Not familiar with the brand? The Oxford Circus establishment is a cult favorite for its cheeky approach to trendy, youthful looks with a bit of an edge—it’s the kind of retailer where you’ll find a DJ spinning in the corner and personal stylists with a couple of piercings in the dressing rooms.
For fall, expect mod cropped sweaters, punk-y tartan, and vinyl-look miniskirts at affordable-to-midrange prices. If you’re looking for something more “grown up,” check out their Boutique collection, which “offers reworked future classics in luxurious fabrics with a focus on style rather than seasonal trends,” according to the label. (Think slinky silk cami dresses and refined leather separates.)
And while TOPSHOP was the only high street brand to show at this past month’s London Fashion Week, I consider them a secret source for less haute items like long-enduring basics and practical-but-cute shoes. If that’s not convincing, you might be piqued by their association with an up-and-coming model named Kate Moss, who had a series of runaway-hit collections there (Burberry’s Christopher Kane has designed for them, too).
