On October 24, Hair and Beyond (20 Purdy Ave, Rye, 914-630-4530), and Hair Creations (245 Halstead Ave Harrison, 914-835-1350) will be hosting a Beauty for a Cure “cut-a-thon” to raise funds to benefit City of Hope, one of 40 comprehensive cancer centers, the highest designation bestowed by the National Cancer Institute in recognition of excellence in cancer treatment, research, prevention, and education. Brenda Maeda, owner of Hair and Beyond, and Clara Betancur, owner of Hair Creations, hope to raise $5,000, 100 percent of which will be donated. For more information, call the salons or visit www.cityofhope.org.

Pity the plight of the beauty blogger: Each week, the newest products appear on her desk, all promising younger-looking skin, tighter pores, plumper lips, lusher lashes, frizz-free hair—in short, a healthier, more glamorous life. Dutifully, Westchester Magazine Associate Editor Katie O’Donnell tests (or investigates) each item or service featured in WM’s Beauty Buzz blog. Life is beautiful indeed.
