Like Mother, Like Daughter

LightStim is an over-the-counter device that is FDA-approved for the treatment of crow’s feet. Shaped like a small shower head, LightStim uses LED light therapy, which has been around for more than a decade, to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and elastin for smoother, younger-looking skin. You simply hold it to your face for a couple of minutes in each location while you’re watching TV or engaged in some other mindless task. All you feel is a nice warming sensation as those little LEDs get to work. It’s kind of relaxing actually. I had tried the Gentle Waves system, which uses the same technology, a few years back and liked the results all over my face—not just around my eyes. So I acted as my own guinea pig with LightStim to see what it would do to a new pimple just starting to form under the skin—one of those hard, painful ones that become enormous and take forever to heal. Well, I’ll be darned if I didn’t wake up to discover it was gone. In turn, each of my three daughters tried it on freshly blooming pimples with the same results. Technically it’s not approved for acne care but, hey, whatever works. Share and share alike.
