Zooey Deschanel Teams Up With Tommy Hilfiger. We Like The Results
The New Girl designed a capsule collection for Tommy Hilfiger, and we suggest you get to their White Plains store.
There are many reasons I have a more-than-slight girl crush on Zooey Deschanel, America’s reigning indie/hipsterish sweetheart, not limited to: Fox’s consistently funny New Girl, her small but noteworthy role in Almost Famous (co-starring the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman), how hard it was to hate her in 500 Days of Summer, and, of course, that unforgettable shower-scene duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Will Ferrell for Elf. (Plus, her name comes from Franny and Zooey, one of J.D. Salinger’s lesser-known works and a personal favorite.)
Tommy Hilfiger brings fans further cause to swoon this month with the launch of “To Tommy, From Zooey,” a capsule-collection collab with the doe-eyed ingénue. True to Deschanel’s vintage style, the line “captures the upbeat optimism of the swinging sixties,” the retailer reports. “Deschanel coined the term ‘Modical’ to describe this spirited line of dresses and accessories, all in the Hilfiger heritage palette of red, white, and blue, in which flattering, Mod-inspired silhouettes are given nautical spirit.”
Available April 21 at Tommy Hilfiger at The Westchester mall, one of select locations chosen to carry the 16 frocks, priced $98 to $199; jewelry (including enamel bangles and a gold-toned sea-charm bracelet); and handbags, the collection will also appear at Macy’s starting April 14, and online.
With Twiggy-referencing short hems, the youthful, summery designs are as cheerful as you’d expect from the TV (and ukulele) star, who astutely observes, “The shapes look good on women and flatter women’s bodies. Designing is really about flattering the person that wears it.” Says Hilfiger: “I’m inspired by the way Zooey has embraced the early 1960s and incorporated it into her own look. It was such a fantastic time for American fashion…Zooey’s personal style encapsulates what we have always represented as a brand: classic, American cool with a preppy, unexpected twist.”
