Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts has appointed Jeffrey P. Haydon its new chief executive officer, effective September 17. Haydon currently holds the position of executive director of the Ojai Music Festival, in Ojai, California. Haydon has led the Ojai Festival since 2003, doubling its budget and helping to triple the number of artistic and educational programs produced there. He previously held positions with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Seattle Symphony.

 

Debra Crew has been named president of PepsiCo Americas Beverages. In this new, expanded role, Crew will oversee PepsiCo's Gatorade and Tropicana business in North America and its Latin America beverages business, as well as the company's North America warehouse sales organization and Beverage Growth Ventures Group. Crew previously served as president of PepsiCo's Western Europe business, with responsibility for commercial and innovation planning across the company's European sector. Crew previously held leadership and brand management roles at Mars Inc., Kraft Foods, Inc. and Nestlé.

 

The JCC of Mid-Westchester has restructured the leadership of its board of directors. Ophiro Cukierman and Peter Rothschild, both of Scarsdale, will serve as board co-presidents, replacing Karen Spar Krasner and Roger Kahn. Krasner will remain on the board to focus on development and fundraising, while Kahn will continue to serve as treasurer. Since joining the JCC in 2010, Cukierman has participated as both a board member and PTA president of the JCC Early Childhood Center. She recently was honored with the JCC’s Young Leadership Award in recognition of her ongoing efforts to bring renewed energy and programming to the JCC.

 

A seasoned finance and management professional, Rothschild currently helps run the investment firm Tamarix Capital Corp. Wayne Goldstein of Mamaroneck will continue to serve as JCC secretary. Fletcher W. Moore, Esq., has joined the Dorf & Nelson LLP Litigation Department as an associate attorney. Moore previously spent four years as an associate attorney at Duane Morris, LLP, in Philadelphia, where he acquired experience as a trial attorney, defending large commercial and private sector clients. Fletcher holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Connecticut and a juris doctor degree from New York Law School.

Julie Simmons has been appointed small business banker for Bank of America’s White Plains, Tarrytown, and Mamaroneck locations. Simmons comes to Bank of America following stints at Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC, and brings 23 years of experience working with small businesses. A resident of Hartsdale, Simmons is active with the Westchester Black Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association, Over 40 Females, El Centro Hispano, The Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island, and PeaceOUTside Campus.

 

WestMed Practice Partners (WPP), a Purchase-based management services organization, has added Anthony Viceroy, CPA, to its executive team as chief financial officer. Previously, Viceroy spent 10 years in senior management positions at Omnicom Group Inc., a Fortune 200 holding company, in advertising and marketing communications, first as senior vice president of financial management and client partnership in its largest unit, Diversified Agency Services (DAS). Viceroy later assumed the role of global president and CFO of Porter Novelli, a public relations firm within the DAS unit.

 

Westchester Children’s Museum has named Ossining resident Kim Jeffrey as the first ambassador of its recently launched Community Ambassador program. Community Ambassadors of WCM will serve to create awareness of the organization and its objectives throughout the region with the goal of raising the remaining funds necessary to build the museum, which aims to gather 15 Community Ambassadors throughout Westchester County and its surrounding regions before the end of the year.

 

Music Conservatory of Westchester (MCW), a nonprofit community arts school located in White Plains, has appointed Sarah Wetherbee to the position of dean of students and faculty, a key leadership role at the school. Also appointed to new positions are Justin Stanley, assistant dean of students and faculty, and Mack Cunningham, chief operating officer. Wetherbee, who also teaches violin at the school, joined Maw’s staff as assistant dean of students and faculty in 2008. In her new role, she will supervise 75 faculty members and three administrative staff, as well as oversee program development and operations, student recruitment and retention.

 

NEW BUSINESSES, RELOCATIONS, OPERATIONS

The Westchester Industrial Development Agency has approved $30,000 in sales-tax exemptions for London Luxury, a New Rochelle-based business that plans to renovate, expand, and add area jobs. Founded in 2000, London Luxury develops, designs, sources, manufactures, and markets home products for licensed brands and major retailers across North America, including Arm & Hammer, Claritin, Elizabeth Arden, The Sharper Image, Macy’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, and JetBlue Airways. The company plans to relocate to a larger space with additional offices and design studios.

 

American DG Energy Inc., a utility offering clean electricity, heat, hot water, and cooling solutions, is now operating a combined heat and power system (CHP) at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown. The revenue value of the agreement to the company totals $2 million over the 15-year term. The highly efficient 100kW CHP system is owned and operated by America DG Energy and is now producing energy in the form of electricity, space heat, and domestic hot water. DoubleTree's utilization of a CHP system is expected to reduce its carbon emissions by approximately 403 tons per year, which is the equivalent of planting 75 acres of forest annually.

 

Heineken USA will add Strongbow Cider to its portfolio beginning January 1. Heineken N.V. accounts for nearly 25 percent of the cider global-market share, offering cider products in 20 markets. The Strongbow brand will further complement the beer company’s diverse product portfolio, which includes Heineken, Dos Equis, Newcastle, Amstel Light, and more. Strongbow—the second-bestselling cider brand in the US—is imported from the UK and is the leading cider brand globally.

 

DeCicco Family Markets, a second-generation grocery chain with eight locations in Westchester and Putnam Counties, has launched its ninth and newest location on Halstead Avenue in Harrison, replacing the Food City that had operated at that location for 25 years.

 

The 18th annual golf tournament for the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester, held on Tuesday, July 31, at the GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, raised $30,000 for the Club. Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the Club’s programs and services. Entergy returned as platinum sponsor, accompanied by silver sponsor TD Bank. Westchester County is set to launch a $2.5 million rehabilitation project at its Mamaroneck Wastewater Treatment Plant. This project will include reconstruction of the central tower, replacement of the roof, and an upgrade of the administration building’s parapet and facade. Titan Construction Group, Inc., has been awarded this project, which is expected to begin by the end of this month and be completed within one year.

 

As part of its commitment to encourage the upcoming generation of business leaders to invest in their communities, Westchester County Association’s Young Professionals Group will offer a full scholarship to a worthy young professional to participate in Leadership Westchester, 2012-2013. This signature program of The Volunteer Center provides deserving, highly skilled, passionate individuals with an in-depth understanding of how nonprofits work, and exposes them to leadership concepts taught at the nation’s top business schools. The goal of this exceptional professional development is to sharpen management skills and understanding of nonprofit board responsibilities. The program will run from October 2012 to June 2013. A State Supreme Court justice dismissed in its entirety a lawsuit brought by some members of the county board of legislators who challenged the right of the Astorino administration to set the contribution levels for families enrolled in the county’s non-mandated, subsidized daycare program. Justice Robert A. Neary rejected a case brought by several Democratic members, including Chairman Ken Jenkins, challenging the authority of Commissioner of Social Services Kevin McGuire to raise parent contributions in order to keep the daycare program solvent.

And the winner is…. Westchester. Kudos to Westchester County on securing the return of The 2013 Miss New York USA Pageant and Miss New York Teen USA Pageant, which will be held at the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College in Purchase on January 19 and 20, 2013.

On August 21, Yonkers Raceway harness drivers Jason Bartlett, Brent Holland, Larry Stalbaum, and Jordan Stratton led a volunteer and food donation effort at the Food Bank for Westchester in Elmsford. Joined by three dozen Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway employees headed by Vice President and General Manager Bob Galterio, the sulky stars bagged more than 1.5 tons of navy beans, which will be among the foodstuffs distributed by the Food Bank. Yonkers Raceway and its horsemen also pledged a donation of $1,000 to the Food Bank.

 

McDonald’s New York Metro Nutrition Network awarded one of its first-ever $5,000 grants to Hillside Food Outreach in Pleasantville on August 23, to help jumpstart the organization’s “Healthy Child Initiative,” a program designed to educate parents about childhood nutrition. Launched in March 2012, McDonald’s Nutrition Network is a community outreach initiative to provide funds to local organizations for grassroots nutrition programs. Frances and Isidoro Albanese and Curtis Beusman will be honored at Mount Kisco Child Care Center’s (MKCCC) annual fundraiser, which will take place at Ivanna Farms in Bedford Corners on Saturday, September 22. The Albaneses are proprietors of Frannie’s Goodie Shop and Bellizzi in Mount Kisco and YoArt in Manhattan. Since opening Frannie’s Goodie Shop in 2011, the couple has donated a percentage of the proceeds to a local charity each quarter. Curtis Beusman, a resident of Mount Kisco, is the founder of Curtis Instruments, Inc., and the Saw Mill Club — two mainstays in Mount Kisco — and has served on the Chappaqua School Board for five years. Since 2002, he has served on MKCCC’s Board of Directors.

 

Open Door Family Medical Centers is one of the 10 semifinalists for the 2012 New York Community Trust—New York Magazine Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Now in their sixth year, the awards honor outstanding management practices and encourage innovation and communication among New York’s large and diverse nonprofit community. Since 2007, the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York (NPCC) and Philanthropy New York have managed this program, which is open to nonprofit organizations based in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester. The 2012 awards are also sponsored by WNYC. A total of $40,000 will be awarded to three organizations at a Best Practices Workshop and Awards Presentation in New York City on November 15.

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef, and Putnam County Executive Mary Ellen Odell intend to vote “yes” at the next New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) meeting to include the new Tappan Zee Bridge project in the region’s long-range transportation plan. A unanimous vote qualifies the project for federal funds.

 

The much-anticipated inaugural season of Port Chester’s 1,800-seat Capitol Theatre will include top name acts such as The Roots, Steve Miller Band, Blondie, Ben Folds Five, and Blues Traveler. The unveiling of a newly renovated Capitol Theatre – which opened September 4 with a performance by Bob Dylan – hasn’t featured a public rock concert since the Rolling Stones taped an MTV special there in 1997.

A new project called the Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC) initiative,, developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center, seeks to change how healthcare is managed regionally. CMS is collaborating with a select group of health plans, including Hudson Health Plan, as well as physician groups to demonstrate that paying primary-care professionals to coordinate care of patients with complex medical needs can improve patient health and reduce overall health costs. Thirteen Hudson providers have been selected to participate in the CPC initiative. Hudson will begin paying a care-coordination fee to the following Westchester-based providers that CMS has selected to participate in the initiative: Comprehensive Primary Care Services (New Rochelle), The Westchester Medical Practice (Yorktown Heights, Peekskill), and Westchester Health Associates (Thornwood). Beyond compensating participating providers for coordinating care, Hudson will provide valuable data to identify patients in need of closer supervision and to alert physicians when patients visit specialists and hospital emergency departments or are released from a hospital.

 

House of Sports is hoping to transform the Village of Ardsley into a training and tournament destination with a 120,000-square-foot complex that includes a children’s nursery, restaurant, and fitness center. CEO Don Scherer, 43, of Tarrytown, came up with the idea while chauffeuring taking his two sons to various sports events outside the county.

The training center will employ about 200 full- and part-time workers. It has hired former coaches who have worked with some of the country’s best-known college teams, such as Andy Borman, who played basketball for Duke University when the school won the NCAA National Championship in 2001.The lacrosse academy will be run by Ned Crotty, an all-American at Duke University and a member of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship team. Crotty received the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy as the nation’s top lacrosse player.
