White Plains Hospital and Scarsdale Medical Group partner; Ginsburg Development Company moves into White Plains, OLA Consulting Engineers expands; and other business news

White Plains Hospital and Scarsdale Medical Group Join Forces

Two titans of Westchester health providers, White Plains Hospital and Scarsdale Medical Group, recently signed an agreement to formalize and advance their relationship as partners.

With 60 years of service, three locations in the county, and a stable of 50 physicians, The Scarsdale Medical Gorup represents a major ally in White Plain’s Hospital’s goal to serve the people of Westchester. The alliance is meant to increase the coordinating of care between practicing physicians of the two organizations. White Plains Hospital is already one of the county’s biggest health services provider, with 17 satellite locations across the region.

 “Scarsdale Medical Group and White Plains Hospital have for many years benefited from a very strong relationship, collaborating closely on patient care,” says Susan Fox, president and CEO of White Plains Hospital. “We are so pleased to be partnering in a more official capacity with this group of outstanding and skilled physicians.”

 

Steering Committee for Gigabit Westchester Initiative Announced by the WCA

The Westchester County Association announced earlier this week that they will be developing a Steering Committee to oversee a plan of action to bring ultra high-speed internet to four local cities.  William M. Mooney, Jr., President and CEO of the Westchester County Association announced the development for the Smart Growth for Gigabit initiative, which was first announced in October 2016.

The 15-member committee includes the mayors of the four local cities participating in the Gigabit initiative: White Plains, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Yonkers.  Jack Kopnisky, CEO and president of Sterling National Bank and Rebecca Ledingham, VP for Cyber Threats and Intelligence at MasterCard are also among the committee members providing the WCA with advice and support.

Ginsburg Development Company Expands into White Plains with The Metro

On March 20, Ginsburg Development Companies (GDC) announced the rebranding of the former Halstead White Plains building at 34 South Lexington Avenue as The Metro. The 12-story, 124-unit building purchased from the DSF Group in 2013 for $35.25 million marks Ginsburg’s first rental property in downtown White Plains

GDC is delighted to be part of the excitement with the debut of The Metro,” said Ginsburg Principal and Founder Martin Ginsburg. “Transit oriented developments, such as The Metro, are a driving force in today’s multi-family market especially with Millennials. With its easy access to Manhattan and vibrant retail and restaurant scene, White Plains has all the ingredients for continued economic growth.”

Iona Colleges Announces Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute

Thanks to a $15 million endowment from alumnus James and Anne Marie Hynes, Iona College is set to establish a new institute focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. The Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is slated to employ more than 30 new tenure-track faculty as well as a new business school building.

The Hynes’ gift is part of the college’s ongoing $150 million Iona Forever campaign, founded to advance academic innovation, student scholarships, and enhance learning environments. Iona College President Joseph E. Nyre states “The Hynes institute will ensure that our students are not only receiving the education they’ll need to be leaders among their peers in this country, but throughout the world.”

 

Hawthorne-Based OLA Consulting Engineers Announces Manhattan Office

Hawthorne’s OLA Consulting Engineers has announced the recent opening of a new Manhattan office at 12 East 49th Street. This marks the first expansion of the mechanical and electrical engineering company into Manhattan, where the company has been doing business since 1974.

Among OLA’s New York City clients are Ralph Lauren, The Archdiocese of New York, Longchamp, and St. Ignatius Loyola School. “Having an office in Manhattan provides us with new opportunities for growth. It also enhances our ability to recruit young professionals who want to work and live in the city,” said Patrick F. Lynch, president of OLA, in a statement.

 

705 Bronx River Road Rendering

Stagg Group Set to Build New Apartment Complex in Yonkers

An abandoned property in Yonkers has received a new lease on life following a three-year review by city council officials. A March 21 vote rezones 705 Bronx River Road for residential buildings, prior to the building’s demolition within the month. Stagg Group’s $7 million investment will go toward a new block-sized complex featuring 160 rental units. The building was initially slated to include several more units, before Stagg reduced the number after meeting with neighbors.

 

Pace University and Astorino Further Mobile Apps to Aid the Elderly

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Pace University have teamed up to hold the 3rd Annual #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl, where more than 440 students will vie to produce the next great app aimed at improving life for seniors. With the judging and awards ceremony slated to begin April 28, students from across the country and abroad are now in the final stages of honing their various apps. The Bowl is part of an initiative fomented by Pace’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems and County Executive Astorino.
