As the professional world becomes increasingly competitive, any experiential edge can make the difference between landing the dream job and being overlooked. For Westchester County, the Leadership Westchester program, run by Volunteer New York!, has stepped in to fulfill this edge-giving role.
Leadership Westchester is a nine-month intensive program that educates no more than 20 students each year with the goal of developing the next generation of the county’s community-minded nonprofit and business leaders (especially those interested in serving as board members of nonprofits). The program runs from October through June and comprises classroom discussions, collaborative fieldwork, and self-study. Applicants from all career backgrounds, including business, the public sector, and nonprofit organizations, are welcome.
Leadership Westchester is not free (the fee is $2,750 for employees of for-profit organizations, $1,750 for employees or board members of nonprofits), but the Westchester County Association offers a Young Professionals Group Scholarship, which covers the entire cost of tuition.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for a young professional in Westchester who wants to learn how to lead and grow as a person,” says Marissa Brett, president of the Westchester County Association. “We are committed to developing the next generation of business leaders in Westchester County, and are pleased to offer this scholarship to a deserving, civic-minded individual.”
Applications are currently being accepted; the application is due September 19 and should be submitted to Joelle DiNardi of the Westchester County Association at firstname.lastname@example.org.
