Frank J. DeRosa, 25
IT Analyst, WESTMED Practice Partners
In the four years since Frank DeRosa began working for WESTMED Practice Partners, he has already been promoted twice. DeRosa, a 25-year-old Harrison native, was hired as a clinical applications specialist in 2010, just days before graduating from Mercy College with a BS in Computer Information Systems. His performance in this position—in which he helped to create and support user accounts for the company, and then transitioned to supporting WESTMED’s online patient portal—netted him his first promotion, to junior analyst, in November 2011.
DeRosa taught himself the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 application (a collaborative web-management platform) so he could help support and develop projects for the company’s intranet. Then, in November of 2012, DeRosa advanced again, this time to IT analyst (his current position), and was selected by WESTMED's CIO and CEO to work on a special project: their “Checklists” application, which confirms that company processes are properly completed on a daily/weekly basis.
Being singled out by the C-level execs was one of his proudest moments. “It was an honor, and it assured me that I was going down a promising path,” DeRosa says. Today, he is part of the company’s Enterprise Content Management team, and his work centers on developing, implementing, supporting, and providing training for OnBase (a document-management system) applications that help the team manage patient health information.
When it comes to his quick ascension at WESTMED, DeRosa credits the organization for supporting young workers. “I’ve always felt that I am taken seriously here,” he says. “I’ve been able to do a lot of different things here because, through my hard work, I’ve gained trust throughout the years. I learned new systems and went outside my comfort zone.”
Clearly, his approach is working.
