New Crystal Restoration has no shortage of bragging rights. Chief among them: The family-owned, Port Chester-based business has called Westchester home longer than many residents have.
Founded in 1960, the property-restoration company now has three generations of the Cordasco family working in its ranks. Over the decades, they have taken a neighborly approach to rescuing Westchester homes, businesses, and schools after floods, fires, and other disasters.
“We are a family and a team,” says Lisa Cordasco, New Crystal Restoration’s president and the founder’s daughter.
A long history alone isn’t enough to stave off the fierce competition in the restoration business: It’s a landscape populated by franchises and major chains. So in 2008, New Crystal Restoration had something of a rebirth (and snagged another bragging right in the process), becoming Westchester’s first green restoration company, as certified by Westchester Green Business.
“Our company has pioneered the use of green products in the field of cleaning and restoration,” Cordasco explains, noting that its services “are highly effective, while being safe for people, pets, and our environment.”
The move has paid off. Since incorporating green products, New Crystal Restoration’s revenues have more than doubled. But Cordasco notes the motivation was a personal decision. “Our family has loved ones with autism and other medical conditions,” she says. Other restoration companies use harsh or toxic chemicals, and the smells can be particularly disruptive to individuals with autism, who have heightened sensitivities.
The goal is to “make sure we cause no harm while delivering powerful clean-up services,” Cordasco adds.
