Nicholas Ericksen, 24

Software engineer, IAC Applications

To reach the top, sometimes you must wear many hats. Twenty-four-year-old software engineer Nicholas Ericksen understands this well. At IAC Applications’ Yonkers office, Ericksen has a hand in everything from supporting corporate communications to helping develop new apps and designing IAC’s corporate website. “There’s a certain beauty to putting all the different pieces together, to learning all the different skills and being able to [combine those pieces] and make something,” he says. Ericksen’s noteworthy accomplishments at IAC include working with the New Products Developer team on NotesHomepage, an app that allows users to add notes to their New Tab pages. He also helped to develop Smarter Password, which checks the strength of users’ passwords and makes suggestions for improvements. One of his first projects at IAC was creating the corporate website, a task for which he had to learn different “stacks,” or coding techniques. The future is wide open for Ericksen, but for now, he plans to immerse himself in the work at hand.
