David Tubiolo, 29
Westchester County Legislator, District 14
David Tubiolo’s election to the Westchester County Board of Legislators last August positioned him as the youngest person in the 17-member governing body’s history. But to the Yonkers Republican — whose district covers parts of Yonkers and Mount Vernon — the key to public service is a desire to help the community, regardless of age. “As long as you have the passion, that’s what matters,” he explains. His interest in public service began as a boy, taking the lead from parents who were involved in a neighborhood community group called Hyatt Civic Association. A fourth-generation Yonkers resident, Tubiolo lives in the house his mother’s family built in 1952, in the McLean Heights neighborhood. He was elected in a special vote after the retirement of Legislator Bernice Spreckman (whom Tubiolo served as a legislative aide for five years) and is already making a difference, sponsoring a bill to ban synthetic marijuana in Westchester. Tubiolo says Spreckman’s service to seniors was “second to none,” and he is continuing that mission as chairman of the Board of Legislators Seniors and Constituencies Committee.
